Byzantine Music

Byzantine Music is one of the most important pillars of studies at the Neapolis Kavala Conservatory, connecting musical education with our rich cultural and religious tradition.

The aim of the department is to learn and deepen the art of chanting, the understanding of musical sounds and the cultivation of the vocal technique required for the performance of the church member. Students are taught:

The theory and practice of Byzantine music
The correct pronunciation and tonal accuracy of the voice
Performance and interpretation techniques with respect for tradition
Teaching is carried out by specialized teachers and chanters with many years of experience, who transmit to students not only the knowledge but also the spiritual dimension of Byzantine music.

Studies are organized at levels (lower, intermediate, higher, degree, diploma), with titles that are recognized by the Ministry of Culture. In this way, students have the opportunity to either pursue a professional career as chanters and teachers, or to delve deeper into this music for personal and spiritual cultivation.

The Neapolis Conservatory places particular emphasis on Byzantine Music, because it believes that the preservation and transmission of this musical tradition is an integral part of our cultural identity.
